Dhaka--(UNB) - Title aspirants India registered their second victory while United Arab Emirates tasted first win in the ICC/ACC Under-17 Asia Cup Cricket Tournament held at two different BKSP venues yesterday (Sunday). An unbeaten 64-run by Shekhar Dhawan guided India to earn a 7-wicket victory over Malaysia at the BKSP ground-2. In their opening encounter on Saturday, India won against UAE by huge 257 runs. Malaysia, yet to win any match in the juvenile tournament, decided to bat first winning the toss but failed to set a fighting total against their strong opponents as they were all out for 143 runs in 44.5 overs. Malaysian captain S Vickneswaran, batted at number four, helped his side reach respectable total making 43 runs off 78 balls with four boundaries while second team highest 23 runs came from extras. One down Eszrafiq Abdul Azis scored 22 runs off 21 deliveries with four boundaries and opener Rosman Zakaria Kedah added 20 runs off 76 deliveries. Mohnish Mishra and Nikhil Rathod claimed three wickets each conceding 14 and 21 runs respectively while Gaurav Gupta captured two wickets for 25 runs. Chasing the paltry total, India reached the target making 147 runs losing three wickets in 23.3 overs riding on a 64-run knock by Shekhar. Opener Shekhar was unbeaten with 64 runs facing 73 deliveries that featured 11 boundaries to become man of the match while Mohnish Mishra remained not out with 19 runs off 17 balls with three fours. Stuart Binny, son of former Indian Test cap Roger Binny who has been acting as coach of the juvenile squad, contributed 29 runs off 21 balls with five hits across the rope. Vickneswaran, Eszrafiq and Suhan Kumar took one wicket each for Malaysia. In the battle of two middle eastern countries at the BKSP ground-1, a brilliant unbeaten 101-run by VV Thomas enabled United Arab Emirates to earn a comfortable 7-wicket win over Oman. Chasing Oman’s 230 runs, UAE reached the target of 231 runs for three wickets in 39.2 overs riding on a 113-run unconquered fourth wicket partnership between Thomas and Imran Butt. Thomas hit 101 runs facing 109 deliveries with 12 boundaries while his partner Imran Butt contributed quick-fire 57 runs off 47 balls. Odeel and Carlo added 21-run each. Thomas, who later took two wickets, was adjudged man of the match. Yash took one wicket for 34 runs while two UAE batsmen returned to the pavilion falling victim of run outs. Earlier, a captain’s knock of 87 runs by Adnan led Oman to a fighting score of 230 runs for all in 44.3 overs. Adnan played 73 balls with seven hits across the fence. Number five batsman Shameel contributed 43 runs off 42 balls with two boundaries while K Hashami added 21 off 43 balls. Carlo, Thomas, Ali Feroz and Wasial captured two wickets each.
